What I Do
The Process
transforming raw stone into bind-runes that shield carriers from modern world chaos.
What I Do
Making Magic
between the old ways and new beginnings.
Stone
Harvesting
Not every stone
is made the same.
Each stone is carefully selected and harvested from ancient waterfalls and rivers that have flowed since the time of the first skalds.
The journey begins where water meets stone - at the sacred flows that have carved their paths through the lands for millennia. I walk these ancient waterways with reverence, allowing my hands to be guided to stones that call forth. Not every stone is chosen; only those with the right weight, texture, and energy are worthy of carrying protective runes.
The Elders believed water-smoothed stones held special power, having been shaped by Njord's patient hand through countless seasons. These stones have absorbed the whispers of our ancestors who drank from the same waters, creating a living connection between past and present.
Rune
Selection
Communing with stone
and ancestral memory.
Based on the stone's natural energy and shape, I select the appropriate runes to creates a powerful bind-rune that amplifies the protective qualities.
In the silence of contemplation, each stone reveals its purpose. I hold it, feel its contours and weight, and listen for which runes it wishes to bear. The stone itself guides this process - some call for Thor's protection, others for Freyja's love-magic, while others demand Odin's wisdom or Eir's healing touch. The runes chosen must work in harmony, their energies weaving together rather than conflicting.
The bind-rune forms a gateway between realms, focusing intent and energy toward specific outcomes. Once the pattern emerges in my mind's eye, it is sketched into temporary form, ready to become permanent through the carving process.
Carving
& Colouring
Carving with intention;
Concentrating with colour.
I hand-carve the bind-rune into the stone. Each stroke is made with purpose and intention. A colour is then chosen and applied.
The carving begins and I press each line and curve into the stone's surface with deliberate pressure. This is not hasty work; each stroke must be true and made with clear purpose, for the runes respond to intention as much as to physical form.
The colour pigments are mixed and applied by hand in layers, allowing each to be absorbed before the next is added. The colours themselves become part of the stone's new nature, vibrating with specific energies that amplify the rune's purpose.
Ritual
Sealing
Light and Oil
at sacred locations.
At an ancient burial site, the bind-runes undergo ritual oiling and sealing, awakening their dormant powers.
When the moon reaches fullness, I journey to an ancient site where the veil between worlds grows thin. Here, where our ancestors rest in their mounds, the stones are arranged upon the earth. Each is oiled and the sealing process creates an unbreakable bond between stone and symbol, between intention and outcome. The burial ground's ancient energies infuse each amulet with the wisdom of those who walked before us.
Through the night, the stones absorb moonlight and ancestral blessing, becoming more than carved rock - transforming into living talismans that pulse with purpose. By dawn's first light, they have completed their awakening.
Scribing
& Shielding
Description
and protection.
The meaning and intent is transcribed by hand. Finally, the stone is shielded in protective wrapping to preserve the concentrated energies absorbed.
With the stone now awakened, its purpose must be fixed through the power of the written word. I transcribe the bind-rune's meaning and intent onto parchment by hand. These words serve as a bridge between the rune's ancient language and its modern bearer, ensuring the power flows properly to its intended purpose.
The handwriting itself forms part of the magic - each stroke of the pen channeling focus and intent just as the carving tool did before. Once completed, the stone is bound and bagged that shield its energies until it reaches its destined keeper. This wrapping prevents the rune's power from dissipating or being corrupted by contrary energies it might encounter.
